More to enjoy at Ashton artisan market

Another artisan market will make its way to Ashton's Market Square this Saturday (25 September).

Over the course of the year, Ashton's artisan market has been highly successful amongst local traders and residents.

Taking place on the last Saturday of every month between 10am and 4pm, this innovative event collates some of the most bespoke businesses in the area and helps to give back to small traders after the effects of the pandemic.

This months edition of the market is set to be extra special.

Sci-Fi and the arts are combining to add an extra dimension to the next market. This will see performances from Cap and Dove – a tiny arts centre on wheels complete with a theatre museum and shop.

Science fiction will also appear in the form of the Hyde Fundraisers and their costumed TV and film characters.

The day will see Captain America, Batman, members of the Enterprise crew from “Star Trek” and Dr Who characters including Daleks creator Davros all attending for an out of this world experience.

Cap and Dove’s wagon, which was created by artist Joshua Sofaer to mark the 200th anniversary of the Peterloo Massacre of 1819, is based on the election carts that were used in the early 19th century when only a few wealthy men were allowed to vote.

This is a destination for anyone looking for adventure, stories of industrial heritage, the inclusive and tolerant nature of communities like Tameside and the region’s radical past.

Tameside Radio will also be down on the day, broadcasting live to 103.6FM.

Come on down and experience all that the market has to offer.
