When cockapoo Kasper went missing on Monday evening, January 15, townsfolk of Mossley immediately joined forces in a heartwarming effort to reunite him with his owner.
The pooch had reportedly been hit by a car on Stockport Road and ran off towards Mossley Park before jumping over a 15ft wall by the town hall.
With locals taking to social media, checking their Ring doorbell cameras and setting out on foot to find him, owner Katie said it truly was a "team effort" when he was eventually found safe almost five hours later.
"I completed my Master's degree and qualified as a nurse today. It's also my birthday and I have my doggy back," she said, adding that she "can't put into words" how grateful she is for the overwhelming response on social media and the public's determination to find her beloved pup.
"In this freezing cold weather, even people I didn’t even know were searching - what an amazing community we really do have. Thank you so much to every single person who has been out searching for Kasper, who has shared my posts and just been all round amazing trying to get him home.
"We’ve walked a million steps together and traced Ring doorbells and spoken to people in the street which all helped trace him."
Katie said the group searched "from daylight to darkness" with head torches.
"My head torch reflected off his eyes and as I shouted his name, I saw the eyes tilt like dogs tilt their heads," she continued.
A post to Facebook announcing his safe return attracted more than 1,000 likes, with the community expressing their relief and happiness that Kasper was home after his little adventure.
