Motorists are being warned about lane closures on Park Parade in Ashton over the next month.
Works are being undertaken to upgrade the street lighting between Scotland Street and Cavendish Street.
It will take place between 9.30am and 3.30pm from Monday 8 November for four weeks.
Disruption is expected during this time, so motorists are advised to allow extra time when travelling in the area.
A spokesperson for Tameside Council's Highways team said: "We realise how busy Park Parade can be so have restricted the working hours to off-peak traffic hours only when the road is quieter.
"The lane closure will be put on in small sections, one side at a time and will be removed for peak traffic hours. We will be monitoring the impact to traffic throughout the duration of the works."
