Denton MP Andrew Gwynne and two local councillors joined local schoolchildren to celebrate the Queen's Platinum Jubilee.

Labour MP Gwynne paid a visit to Russell Scott Primary School and St Anne's Primary School with his wife Denton North East Councillor Allison Gwynne.

Custom-made crowns and Union Jacks were dotted around both schools as the children celebrated the historic 70th year of Queen Elizabeth's reign. The MP and councillor both helped the children design Jubilee-themed crafts in the playground, and also got geared up in royal fancy dress.

MP Andrew Gwynne said: "Cllr Allison Gwynne and I have had such a brilliant day celebrating the Queen's Platinum Jubilee with children at St Anne's and Russell Scott. It really is lovely to see the community coming together to celebrate such a historic national event."

Cllr Allison Gwynne added: "We've had so much fun chatting to some fantastic young people and celebrating the Jubilee. Thanks to pupils at both schools for allowing us to join in with your celebrations, and for letting us try on your hand-made Jubilee crowns!"

Later, MP Gwynne was also joined by Denton South Councillor Claire Reid to help plant a commemorative cherry tree at St John Fisher RC Primary School.

They joined the children in planting the tree in their new orchard.

Gwynne then took questions from years 4, 5 and 6 about his role as an MP, whilst taking the opportunity to congratulate the children and staff on receiving a 'Good' Ofsted rating in a recent inspection

Andrew Gwynne said: "I'm grateful to St John Fisher for inviting me and Cllr Reid to help plant their Jubilee cherry tree. It's a really beautiful orchard, and it's lovely to know that the tree will be enjoyed for generations to come and serve as a reminder of a truly historic Jubilee celebration.

"I really enjoyed getting to chat to the wonderful pupils at the school. They were full of questions about my role as an MP, and it was great to see young people so engaged and curious about our democracy.

"I'd also like to just take a moment to congratulate staff and pupils on their 'Good' Ofsted rating. St John Fisher is a brilliant school, and it's always a pleasure to pay a visit."
