Midwife Sally Morgan has been presented with a Chief Midwifery Officer - Maternity Support Excellence Award at a special ceremony held at Tameside Hospital.
Sally received the award from Claire Mathews, Northwest Regional Chief Midwife, after one of Sally’s colleagues cited her ‘passion and dedication’ to her role as a Maternity Education Support Worker.
Since she joined the Trust in 2011, Sally has worked in a variety of maternity-related positions and combines her role as a support worker with the Enhanced Midwifery Team.
She contributes to the maternity support workers’ network with training sessions, and holds wellbeing meetings to provide a safe space to discuss professional matters and concerns.
Sally’s interest in midwifery was sparked after giving birth to quadruplets, and she is now a proud mum of ten children.
Speaking after picking up her award, Sally said: “It is a privilege to work in maternity and I am proud to have been given this award.
“It came as a total surprise and I was a bit lost for words, but so overwhelmed by the kind words from a colleague at NHS England who nominated me. I will wear the badge with pride!”
Her nominator noted they were ‘blown away by her passion and dedication’ to maternity services and ‘strongly believe that Sally champions the NHS values and goes above and beyond in her role’.
Kerry Reede Field, Divisional Midwifery & Nursing Director at Tameside and Glossop ICFT, said: “I would like to congratulate Sally on this outstanding achievement and I am delighted her work has been recognised by those at a regional level.
“Through her personal experiences, she has been able to provide selfless and important support to the department during a difficult time, and I cannot think of a more worthy recipient of this special award.”
