New Ashton warm hub opening tomorrow

A warm hub will be opening its doors in an Ashton church tomorrow to help locals deal with rising energy costs.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, on Patterdale Road, will be open each Tuesday over the winter months between 11:30am and 2pm.

Bishop Preston said this time will serve as an opportunity for people to warm-up, eat, chat, play games, charge their digital devices and enjoy a 'free, safe, non-judgemental environment'.

He added: "We feel that we can utilise our building and facilities much more. We have our Church meetings on a Sunday and our Youth programme during the week, and then some other activities, but the rest of the time it is not used.

"We have seen other warm hubs and places of welcome locally and want to join with them to help in the community in these difficult times.

"It is very simple to run. We’ll provide soup, bread, hot chocolate and biscuits. It will require some commitment from our volunteers, but our members are looking forward to helping out in our local community."

Two Family History specialists will also be available at each session to help anybody who is interested in researching their family history.
