A new development of specialist homes that will allow adults with learning disabilities to live more independently has been completed in Droylsden.

The scheme of five one-bedroom apartments in Hart Street has been developed by Arcon Housing Association working in partnership with Care Housing Association and Tameside Council.

The modern, energy-efficient homes, which have been developed on a previously vacant piece of land, will allow residents to live independently with support from care professionals when needed.

Ian Ankers, managing director of Arcon and Bolton at Home Group Executive Director of Business Development, said: “Supported living properties are designed to be adaptable so they can provide a long-term place to live for people with specific needs. 

“Such properties are in great demand and so we’re always looking for opportunities to build more of them.

“This small and attractive development in Droylsden will allow residents to be part of a strong and thriving community close to the town centre, local services and transport links.

“We’re very proud to have been able to provide these new homes and work with Care Housing Association to ensure tenants get the support they need.”

Built by Dukinfield-based John Southworth Builders, the new homes are built from materials that complement existing housing in the area. Off road parking for occupants, carers and visitors is provided as part of the development.

Operating as a charitable community benefit society, Arcon owns and manages over 1,400 homes in and around Greater Manchester.

Care Housing Association works with registered housing providers and local authorities to develop and manage specialised supported housing across the North West. 

Its homes enable tenants to receive appropriate care and support to empower them to live as independently as possible within the community.
