New Neighbourhood Watch group set up on Ashton estate

A new Neighbourhood Watch group has been successfully launched on the West Park Estate in Ashton.

It's the first time Tameside Council has worked with a housing association to set up a Neighbourhood Watch group.

The collaboration is between the council, Ashton Pioneer Homes, the Neighbourhood Police Team and the community.

Neighbourhood Watch schemes work together in partnership with the police, Community Safety departments of local authorities, other voluntary organisations and individuals and families who want to make their neighbourhoods better places to live.

The initial launch took place at Ryecroft House in Ashton. However, if you missed it, Tony Moran, the Lead Neighbourhood Watch coordinator and volunteer will be hosting a drop in and presentation at Ryecroft House, Park Street, in Ashton on 1 March between 2pm and 5pm.

Executive Member, Cllr Vimal Choksi said: “We are proud to have brought residents together with Ashton Pioneer Homes and the council to set up a Neighbourhood Watch Group, which will help ensure the area is a secure and sound place to live.

“This is important for the residents of Ashton, as it will allow them to feel protected whilst out and about in their neighbourhood. I hope this will further encourage others to look out for one another and come together to help make our community safer and stronger.”

Anyone who would like to get involved and contribute their efforts to a Neighbourhood Watch Group can do so by visiting www.ourwatch.org.uk.

Additionally, anyone interested in starting a new scheme and would like more information can visit www.tamesidenwa.co.uk or email the Community Safety Team on communitysafety@tameside.gov.uk.
