A row of new terraced houses could be built in Hyde under plans submitted to the local authority.

Tameside Council has received an application from a developer to build nine new homes on Syddall Street in Hyde.

Ascot Property Estate is proposing to demolish the existing commercial building on the corner of the site, which was last used as a children’s play centre, and before that as a cash and carry from 2009 to 2017.

The 'rudimentary' car park next to it that serves the unit would also be built on under the plans.

Each of the nine properties would be three-storeys high, and have three bedrooms. There would be four on-site parking spaces as part of the development.

The design and access document states: “The landowner is clear that neither the ongoing occupation of the building nor any alternative redevelopment for commercial use represents an appropriate and viable endeavour.

“This application proposes the clearance of an existing commercial building, to create high quality residential accommodation using contemporary design and other associated works.”

Following discussions with Tameside council officers, the height of the buildings were reduced from four storeys which had originally been proposed by the applicant, the documents state.

The size of the development is under the threshold required for contributions to affordable housing, council officers say in their response.
