Residents and businesses across Tameside are being urged by the council to donate to local food banks to help local families in need.
People can make donations at food bank collection points in local supermarkets or at any Tameside library or Tameside children’s centre up until 6 December.
Items needed include tinned meat and fish, tinned fruit and vegetables, custard and rice pudding, tea bags, coffee, long life milk and fruit juice, microwavable rice, breakfast cereals, biscuits and Christmas treats such as boxes of chocolates. Toiletries are also needed.
Tameside Council Executive Leader Cllr Brenda Warrington said: “Every year the generous support of Tameside residents and business donating to foodbanks brings very much needed festive cheer and support to local families and individuals living in difficult circumstances.
“Donating to a foodbank is a great way to get in the festive spirit and help you feel involved and connected with your local community. The food donations will help to fill some empty cupboards in struggling households over the Christmas season. Please give what you can.”
