Plans for former Barclays bank in Hyde

The vacated Barclays bank building in the centre of Hyde could be transformed into an educational learning centre.

Permission for a change of use from financial to learning / education centre is now being sought from Tameside Council.

If successful internal alterations would be adapted for the repurposed building.

It is suggested the centre would be used between 5pm to 8pm, Mondays to Fridays and would also be in use at weekends between 10am and 3pm.

The main users will be school aged children (aged six to 12 years old) who will be offered the opportunity to obtain additional teaching / education on language and other subjects.

The number of students attending the building each day will be a maximum of 45-50 with overall staff numbers ranging between 10-15 depending on classes and requirements, a report states.

Tameside Council is considering the plans.

The prominent Market Street building has been empty since Barclays closed its branch at the site back in May 2020.
