Police hunt attempted Ashton carjackers

Two masked robbers were thwarted when trying to steal a woman’s car while it was stopped at red lights in Ashton.

One of the would-be thieves attempted to open her driver-side door at the crossroads of Lees Road, Broadoak Road and St Christopher’s Road at 8pm on Tuesday, July 23, before bringing out a weapon and ordering her out of the vehicle.

She refused and sped off towards Oldham, leaving the man to fall off his bike.

It is not known which direction the men came from, nor where they went after the incident, but they are thought to have either been on electric bikes or motorbikes.

"This attempted robbery thankfully resulted in no injuries or no property taken, but a woman was understandably left shaken after being threatened by a weapon,” GMP’s Sergeant Robert Froggatt said about the failed carjacking.

“I would urge anyone with any information to please get in touch with us, as your information could greatly benefit the investigation.

"If you saw anything from around that time, or have any knowledge of what happened, you can contact police via 0161 856 9262, 101, or gmp.police.uk, quoting crime reference number CRI/06GG/0014959/24."
