Police are continuing to urge people to report any suspicious behaviour, after a 40-year-old man from Ashton has been charged with six counts of vehicle interference and possession of a Class B drug.
It comes after officers were made aware of a 'suspicious' man on Russell Street in Ashton just before 4am on Tuesday morning (30 March).
He was seen by a council CCTV operator trying the doors on multiple vehicles.
Just minutes later, a man who 'matched the description perfectly' was arrested and taken to custody at Ashton police station.
Marc Birchall, of Parry Walk in Ashton, has been charged and will appear at Tameside Magistrates' Court in 'due course'.
Greater Manchester Police's Tameside North and East team added: "Please report all suspicious behaviour so that we can aim to send an available patrol to look in to the incident."
Incidents can be reported by calling 101 in a non-emergency or online at https://www.gmp.police.uk. You should always dial 999 in an emergency.
