Our Lady’s of Mount Carmel RC Primary School recently celebrated its 25th anniversary, with a special assembly to commemorate the school’s wonderful history.
On Monday 31 October, the voluntary aided Primary and Nursery school (situated on Holden Street in Ashton) marked 25 years since it’s foundation along with the well-deserved receipt of a ‘good’ Ofsted report.
Students reminisced on their favourite memories at the school, with countless mentions of the welcoming atmosphere they had experienced in their time there. The staff’s aim to create such a warm, friendly environment for the pupils was palpable when we were there.
Janet Bostock, deputy head teacher and KS1 lead who has been based at the school for 31 years, said, ‘When I started it was originally two schools who had joined together, we had a big opening all those years ago introduced by the Bishop.
‘My favourite memory has to be when both of my children began here in nursery and they’re now both teachers here as well, it’s such a lovely homely school and that has continued throughout the years.
‘I currently work with staff who have worked here for years, there’s never very much movement of staff because it’s such a happy school. We’re really proud of our school and we know we’re ‘good’ if not better.’
Helen Hayes, the head teacher, continued, ‘It’s a great celebration, it’s a great school and as you can tell from our new Ofsted banner it’s a ‘good’ school and it’s been consistently good over the years.
‘We’re very very proud and we wanted to put the two things [the anniversary and Ofsted report] together to make it a day of celebration. I’ll have been here for eight years at Easter; we’re a very tight knit community, a very friendly school…we’re like one big happy family.’
