Prince's Trust renovate new Hyde hub

The Prince's Trust have recently completed another community project in Hyde Bangladeshi Welfare association, renovating the hub that will now open as a youth club. Two of the young people wrote about the experience.

We’re part of the Hyde team 32 with the Prince’s Trust which is an employability programme for ages 16-25. This programme prepares you with work experience and skills that employers will look for.

We have just wrapped up our community project rejuvenating the garden and back building of the Bangladeshi Welfare Association, on Chapel street in Hyde. The reason we have done this is the association are opening a youth club for young people ideally not in employment or education to attend. The club will be called HYP.

We chose this project as we were inspired by Abdul’s (the community support officer) passion and excitement to bring this opportunity to the local community.

When we first started on the project the garden was overgrown and scattered in lots of litter, it was very muddy, and the decking was rotted throughout.

Overall, a lot of improvements with the space’s appearance was needed in order for it to become a functional space for the public. The team have worked hard to make it a safe and appealing environment.

We have worked on the space for the last 2 weeks, during this time we bag packed in Denton Morrisons to raise funds for any equipment we would need.

In total we made £315 in 4 hours work which we are very proud of.

Overall, we cleared up all of the gardens, by clearing any shrubs, weeds and trees that had begun to grow over the time the space had not been used. We painted the brick walls nice and bright, put up some bamboo fencing, painted a mural on the wall inside the hub that is going to be used as the youth club and finally added some colour and beauty with flowers.

We hope that this space will be well used and loved once opened, offering a space for Youth engagement which is much needed in the area. We hope to run activities and programmes that will deal with issues faced by young people, whether it be employment issues, careers guidance, social and community engagement and be a safe and welcoming space for them.
