By Harvey Robson and Kyle Morrison (Prince's Trust Team)

Over the past two weeks, the Prince’s Trust team at Hyde Fire Station have dedicated their time to helping out and improving the local community.

Young people in the team have done this by taking part in community projects, which consists of them working at two different locations.

The first location they visited was New Chapel Unitarian in Denton. Here there were a number of opportunities for the team to work on.

At the church the tasks completed consisted of the team jet-washing the front of the building to bring it back to life, paint- ing a mural on the fence, re-painting all of the fences, tables and chairs, installing solar powered lights and decorating the church’s gardens.

The team then visited their second location at Dane Bank Green Space where volunteers have a brilliant vision for the amazing space.

Originally, the Dane Bank green space was earmarked for hundreds of homes; however the local council and residents came together to protect the green space.

This area now acts as a place for the local community to go, relax and enjoy the outdoors. It is also a mindfulness space with facilities for fishing, dog walking, picnics, bird watching and admiring thehorses in the fields.

In order to improve the green space, the Prince’s Trust team installed four benches and finished them with an oak coloured varnish.

The group also worked on putting up a wire fence to prevent people from climbing over and disturbing the horses and also to protect dog walkers.

The four benches installed are memorial benches for people in the community. Once finished, plaques, remembering loved ones, will be fitted in a special ceremony. Families an then visit and admire the completed work.

Overall, all of the actions mentioned above by the team are all examples of how the team has worked together; to improve and unite the community, in order to enhance the lives of the local families and residents.

The team hope the work they have completed has made a noticeable difference and will make people happy for years to come.
