An appeal for new pyjamas for children staying at Tameside Hospital was well supported once again by the communities of Tameside and Glossop.
Children's Hospital Pyjamas is a UK-based charity, founded in 2009, which collects donations of brand new pyjamas for children aged from newborn to 18-year-olds.
They go to poorly or less fortunate children when they are staying in hospital so they are in more comfortable clothing and don’t have to wear a hospital gown.
The annual appeal was launched locally in September with a number of designated locations across the area for people to drop off pyjama donations.
The response from residents and businesses was fantastic, with around 300 sets of pyjamas collected altogether.
They were all individually packaged up and delivered to Tameside Hospital’s children’s ward in Ashton just in time for Christmas.

It was organised by Jemima Higgins, one of the charity’s Manchester area co-ordinators.
Jemima, from Glossop, said: “Thank you to everyone who donated pyjamas and a special thanks to Active Tameside, Glossop Leisure Centre, Longdendale High School, St Philip Howard Catholic Voluntary Academy and Florence & Amelia’s in particular who actively supported the collection.
“Children's Hospital Pyjamas was originally centred around providing a gift for children in hospital wards to open on Christmas Day but it has grown to support children of all ages all year round.
“The lovely staff on the children’s ward at Tameside Hospital were very appreciative of the donations and hopefully the pyjamas will help the young kids feel more comfortable during their stay in hospital.”
The pyjama appeal, which has been running for several years now, will return in 2023.
