A free Kids’ Cookery Club is firing up for its return to Ashton Market.
Launched by Tameside Council in 2019, the Kids’ Cookery Club teaches children up to the age of 12 how to prepare healthy dishes using fresh, local ingredients.
Some of the recipes youngsters can expect to make are pizzas, veggie burgers and fish cakes, taught by local chef, Joan Burage.
Joan has years of experience under her belt, working as a demo chef with local authorities and the NHS, with markets and at events such as the Bolton Food and Drink Festival, plus running sessions in children’s centres and supporting Age UK in raising awareness of malnutrition amongst older people.
Joan added: “Working with children in the local community can help educate them about nutrition as well as how to cook fresh delicious food, and perhaps also try foods they might not have seen or tasted before.
“If this helps people to make some small changes and fosters good habits that’s a box ticked for me!”
Those interested in booking for the sessions can contact Luke Mirfin at markets@tameside.gov.uk, providing the prospective young chef’s name and age, a contact number or email address and their preferred dates.
The dates being offered are 17 July, 21 August, 18 September, 16 October, 20 November and 11 December.
