Save Tameside Greenbelt is encouraging residents to have their say on the planning application for Godley Green Garden Village.
As we recently reported, the controversial application has now been formally submitted with residents having seven weeks to respond and submitting their own thoughts to the planning authority - Tameside Council.
Comments can be made directly on the council’s website, but people can also email or write in to the planning department to make their opinion known.
The council will allow the public to comment for 49 days before all the responses are considered.
Save Tameside Greenbelt, who have long campaigned against the application, added: “We would encourage everyone to object against the planning application, not because we are against houses, but we believe brownfield sites should be built on first.
“Our greenbelt should be protected at all costs, because once it’s gone it's gone.
“We believe the infrastructure around Hyde would struggle with the huge rise in population on a single area - 2,150 houses is likely to bring 6,500 people and 4,000 extra cars into the area.
“It’s also easy for the council to say they’ll create a doctors, but when there is a national shortage of GPs where are they going to magically appear from? How easy is it to get a dentist? How long do you have to wait at A&E? These are just a few things this development could affect.”
The group has also raised more than £4,200 through a GoFundMe appeal to fund professional legal assistance to make an objection on the group’s behalf against the application.
