Sitsiam centre in mural celebration in Ashton

IMPRESSIVE: The Civic Mayor of Tameside unveils the mural.

A stunning mural and new tourist attraction for Ashton has been officially 'unveiled'.

Famous Street artist Akse_P19 recently created the mural on the Sitsiam Camp’s building at Whitelands Industrial Estate.

It is the first street art by the renowned artist to be created in the Tameside area.

Amongst Akse_P19’s famous paintings is the portrait of Manchester United footballer Marcus Rashford.

The new artwork depicts Kru Steven Moore from the Sitsiam Camp in traditional Muay Thai attire.

The mural can be viewed from the Huddersfield Narrow Canal at the rear of the Sitsiam Camp’s building.

The work was celebrated with an official opening day on Saturday, with the Civic Mayor of Tameside Cllr Mike Glover and Mayoress Anne Gordon using an impressive martial arts sword to ‘cut’ the ribbon.

The artwork is intended to be an icon landmark for people walking or travelling by barge along the canal.

It’s been a busy time for the group, who played an active part ‘kick starting’ the previous Jubilee weekend events in Ashton town centre, the Sitsiam Martial Arts Camp members giving a demonstration on the market ground.
