Spring show to precede Stalybridge Festival Weekend

After the disappointment of having to cancel Stalybridge Carnival for the last two years, it's all systems go now for the Stalybridge Festival Weekend on 25 and 26 June.

But before that, the Stalybridge Festival Committee has also pledged to host a large spring show in Cheetham Park on Sunday 1 May, with a five metre tall maypole being the focal point in the arena.

It will help raise extra funds to help cover the cost of the carnival.

Sarah England's Dance Academy - which always has a float at the carnival - will be busy choreographing several dances around the maypole in May.

Sarah will also be holding a workshop for members of the public to dance at the maypole on the day.

There will also be a funfair, stalls and a dog show.

The move comes following the success of last summer's Big Party in the Park.

Organising secretary Ian Cochrane said: "We are planning a fun-packed afternoon of activities in May before the bumper weekend in June - watch this space for more details soon."
