Stalybridge craft group donate blankets to local care home

A Stalybridge arts and crafts group made and gifted blankets to a local care home earlier this month.

Meet and Make was founded by Christine Dodge, a retired primary school teacher, four years ago. The group comes together every Thursday from 1:45pm until 3pm at Lockside Medical Centre, on Huddersfield Road.

The volunteers recently knitted squares for blankets which they then presented to Staley House Care Home and were "over the moon" that some of the residents have started attending the craft sessions weekly following this.

There is no cost to people attending the group, the only restriction is you must be a patient at the practice.

Christine said: "Every week we meet and make crafts and have a drink of tea or coffee. We do make things for charity and have raised several pounds, we also recently knitted squares made blankets for Staley House Care Home.  The main reason for starting this group was for my love of making things and helping others.

"The group has proved more than that as every week our room is filled with chatter and laughter and we all benefit. We now have some people from the care home joining us and they really enjoy the company."

Meet and Make meet in a large room upstairs at the surgery, however there is a stair lift for anyone who struggles with mobility.
