Strum down to the library and learn to play the ukulele

Friday (June 21) is Make Music Day and to get in tune with the national event, Ashton Library has organised a free hour-long ukulele workshop starting at 1pm.

You’ll be taught the basics of the popular instrument instrument by an experienced Tameside Music Services instructor.

Ukuleles will be provided, but feel welcome to bring your own.

Tameside Libraries are part of the ukulele loan scheme organised by the North West Ukulele Project which allows library members to borrow an instrument for free. So why wait? Reserve your ukulele today.

Cllr Sangita Patel, Tameside Council’s assistant executive member for culture, heritage, participation and sport said: “I’m sure the workshop will be very popular, just like the launch event for the ukulele loan scheme at Stalybridge Library in February.

“Even if you don’t consider yourself musically gifted there will be so much you can gain from the event. Like reading, music exercises the brain. It’s great for helping with relaxation and casting off cares.”
