Students at Cromwell Sixth Form enjoy the fun of a "Glastonbury style" festival

Cromwell Sixth Form, located on Yew Tree Lane, held its annual "Glastonbury style" festival for the second year running on Friday, July 12.

The event was planned to provide an opportunity for young people with additional needs and their families to experience a festival in a safe and familiar environment.

Deputy Headteacher, Nicky Read, said: "The festival included amazing music acts, creative arts, circus skills, balloon modelling, giant bubbles and refreshments.

"This was only possible due to the generosity of the local community, who stepped up when we needed some help.

"A massive thanks to everyone who helped to organise and support us on the night, especially Team Cromwell, volunteers and performers."

Both past and present pupils were invited along on the day and Nicky said, despite the bad weather, the music played on and "a great time" was had by all.

The Dukinfield sixth form appealed to the public at the start of this month after they were let down by the musicians who were initially going to perform.

"Most of our students never get an experience like this, due to their disabilities, as many young people find it difficult to attend and join in at crowded events," a spokesperson for the school had said at the time.

"We hold this event annually so our young people, who all have special educational needs, can be like other teenagers enjoying music and the vibe of a festival but in a very safe environment."

Community stalwart, Angela Wild, contacted some of her "singer friends" after seeing the appeal on social media and was able to arrange alternative entertainment for the teens.

Staff said "a big thank you" to Angie for putting them in touch with Tracy Jay, DJ JACKO, Rachel Farrow and Peter Lee, all of whom gave up their time to perform for the students and make the festival "extra special".
