Student praises Clarendon Sixth Form College

The pandemic has given students huge challenges over the last year with restricted practical work and home learning. 

Despite these problems, Clarendon Sixth Form College has ensured students have received all the help and support they need to continue their studies.

Student Charlotte Hall, from Hyde, who is studying animation and games design, said she is grateful for all the help she has received.

She said: “When I was at secondary school I wanted to go to college to do something art related. 

“When I went to the open day at Clarendon Sixth Form College I found they had lots of art related courses such as art and design, photography and media, but the one I chose was animation and games design. At that time I was interested in both those areas and I wasn’t really sure which to choose, but they fell pretty much where I wanted my career to go.

“I’ve always had that interest in animation and games, so with the course it was the things you learn like character design, 3D modelling, and concept art, along with the background in the game industry. We did a project where we got to learn how to animate and the history behind it as well.”

Charlotte said lockdown had proved a challenge.

She added: “Obviously we haven’t been in college a great deal to have access to some of the facilities, but one great thing was the college setting us up in Microsoft Teams. 

“This enabled us to have meetings every week so teachers could keep us updated on what was going on and what tasks we need to do etc.

“It was so helpful to keep us all in the loop and we could email one another if we had any questions. Despite the restrictions they pulled out the stops to help us continue the course.”

Charlotte hopes to go to Norwich University of the Arts to do a BA in animation.

She added: “I do want to go into the animation industry, but I’m not sure where yet, but the skills I have learned with Clarendon Sixth Form College have given me a good foundation to build on. It’s been a really positive experience, even with Covid, and the teachers were very supportive in helping you and wanting you to do well.”
