Caring volunteers donned gloves and high vis jackets to clean up a grot spot in Mossley.
Mossley Litter Bugs targeted an area of the woods and river between Queen Street car park and Three Counties estate at the weekend.
Rachel Summerscales, from the group, said there were 24 volunteers who helped out - some in the water and some out.
She said: “It was great to see lots of new faces and we had six young people out which we love!
“We picked 48 bags of litter and also wet wipes from the river (please stop flushing these down the loo). Plus over a ton of metal, tyres and fly tipping that had been dumped in the river and woods.
“Big thanks to Hazel and Emmaus for the much-needed brews. Now can we, between us, try and keep this area clean?
“It’s a beautiful place to play, hang out and watch wildlife and if everyone takes their litter and poo home we can keep it this way.”
The Mossley Litter Bugs will be out and about this weekend on Saturday, May 1, at 10am, meet at the far end of Waterton Lane.
They will also be litter picking at 10am, Saturday, May 8, meet at Scout bridge to pick the river and the quarry.
The group always welcome new volunteers.
