Tameside counsellor aims to double homeless support

A counsellor is raising funds to provide free talking therapy for the homeless at the We Shall Overcome Hub at The Station pub in Ashton.

Pure Perspective Therapy (PPT) already lays on one day of counselling sessions per week for rough sleepers, those in danger of finding themselves on the street, or people who are adjusting to being back in accommodation.

“Every week, we witness the profound impact that a safe space and professional support can have,” said James Shawcross from PPT. “For those who have lost everything, access to person-centred counselling offers a lifeline — bringing emotional support, dignity, and renewed hope.

“Due to increasing demand, we aim to extend this support to two days a week, but we need your help to make this possible.

“Your donation will go directly toward funding an additional day of counselling sessions each week, ensuring more people receive the help they need to overcome trauma, rebuild their lives, and find stability.

“If we hit the target of £1,000, this will fund around 40 sessions. If we smash the target we can provide this all year round.”

Landlady of The Station, Pauline Town, said on social media: “James is genuinely making a massive impact with the free day of counselling he does here every Wednesday but would love to expand it to do a second day.”
