Daksha Mistry and Dilip Mistry are hosting a 3-4-1 Charity Ball on Saturday, December 2, in memory of their beloved daughter, whom they lost to Meningitis at 11 months old. They have pledged their charity fundraiser to three charities - Meningitis Now, Dementia UK and Dr Kershaw’s Hospice in Oldham.
Daksha has also worked hard over the past three years to raise awareness and funds for Cancer Research UK and other local charities, and these will be acknowledged on the night, too!
“The inspiration for my mission comes from three loves of my life who have sadly passed away. It is in remembrance of my dear Mother, my father, and our beloved Daughter, Bhavini,” said Daksha.
Daksha also lost her mum to Dementia and dad to Cancer. She feels supporting these fundraisers will help in the research for early diagnosis and treatments and aid in the care and support needed by the patients.
“Our daughter, Bhavini, died of Meningitis in 1988. Had we known more about the symptoms or understood the warning signs that were rapidly emerging that fateful night, we may have been able to save her life,” she said.
Since then, the Mistrys have worked tirelessly towards making a meningitis vaccine available to the public. They have set up the Dukinfield Support Group, and Meningitis Trust was also set up.
“Inspired by her memory, we have worked tirelessly to raise awareness and funds. We raised money for research, and 2013, the vaccine was found. Initially, it faced some Government opposition to publicising the vaccine because of its high cost. But ultimately, it got passed in 2014 to become readily available,” informed Daksha.
Daksha said this gives her much contentment and satisfaction, paying tribute to her late daughter.
“Through these endeavours, I would like to be able to provide others with more knowledge to seek immediate support for the lives of their loved ones.”
She wants people to come out in numbers and join the charity ball as an exciting choice for a Christmas night out, party, and three good causes.
“We have a champagne reception with a welcome musical ensemble. Wine and a great 3-course Indian meal table to be served, live entertainment, musical theatre, a pantomime theatre production, DJ, auction, raffle, Tombola and more.
“This remarkable event is set to be a night filled with joy, compassion, and celebration, all supporting three incredible charities. Get ready to dance, give, and make a lasting impact in our community!” Daksha appealed.
