Last Friday, the local charity Action Together and the Tameside Reporter team embarked on a visit around a plethora of schools and businesses in the local areas to collect the mountains of toys for the annual Tameside Toy Appeal.
Our first stop was to Greenside Primary school and the Greenside Day Nursery where there was an abundance of toys such as lego sets, board games, a selection of dolls and arts and crafts to be donated to the children who need them.
The generosity did not stop there, MP Andrew Gwynne joined in with the event starting at Mi Amour hair salon in Denton. There was a selection of gifts under their exquisitely black and gold decorated Christmas tree.
Gwynne, Action Together and the Tameside Reporter then progressed to the Denton Community College, the students were enthusiastic about the cause and many of them donated gifts aimed at teenagers.
The Denton community library was feeling festive as we collected the dozens of toys that had been dropped off there, they also had a many gifts such as Pokemon, board games and colouring accessories.
Our last stop was to the state of the art wellness centre in Denton. Three boxes full of toys were sitting there waiting to be picked up to ensure children won't go without a present this Christmas.
The kindness and charitable nature of the community did not go unnoticed as collectively, we would all like to say a massive thank you and express our appreciation for everyone who donated something to the appeal and everyone’s hard work, effort and dedication at Action Together has been so inspiring to see. This time of year is a challenging time of year for many families across the country but thanks to the empathetic community spirit, children will be able to open a gift on Christmas Day, making the day an extra bit more special.
