Tameside Troopers founder helps Stalybridge community foodbank

In the Christmas countdown, more families than ever are facing challenges as a result of the pandemic.

From food poverty to affording to provide presents, this year will be one of unprecedented difficulties, the likes of which have not been experienced in a generation,

But one person who was determined to make a difference this year was Damian Harvey who works at Ashton’s Ladysmith Shopping Centre.

Damian, who is founder of Tameside Troopers, has raised funds for many good causes in the borough across the years, sometimes wearing his Stormtrooper costume.

He decided that this year he would help Barty’s Community Foodbank based in Stalybridge, so he teamed up with the Ladysmith Shopping Centre to host drop off points for donations.

Already there are lots of bags loaded with items donated by Ashton shoppers at the Ladysmith.

“This year I wanted to help families out who may be struggling,” explained Damian.

“I thought it would be a good idea to do my bit and in just one day I raised £105 which will be spent on selection boxes for kids.

“I chose Barty’s because I know Steven Barton and I know for a fact that the items will go to people in genuine need. He works hard to make sure food gets to the right people where it is needed most.

Donations can be made at drop off points within the Ladysmith, or at Barty’s Community Foodbank, located alongside Stalybridge Labour Club.

Steven received a BEM in the Queen’s Birthday honours for his work establishing the food bank.
