Tameside's three MPs have each paid their own tributes to their colleague Jack Dromey, who has died suddenly at the age of 73. 

Mr Dromey was the husband of fellow Labour MP Harriet Harman, with whom he had three children. 

Elected to parliament in May 2010, representing Birmingham Erdington, he was a former deputy general secretary of the Transport and General Workers' Union and had been Labour Party treasurer. He was also shadow minister for immigration. 

Mr Dromey passed away in his flat in Erdington on Friday morning (7 January). 

The sad news of his death was shared by Jack's son Joe on Twitter.

'Jack was a great mentor and supporter to me' 

Tameside's MPs shared their immediate reaction to the news on social media on Friday afternoon. 

Ashton-under-Lyne MP and Labour Party deputy leader Angela Rayner said: "Jack was a great mentor and supporter to me but above all a friend for many years. This is absolutely tragic news for his family, his constituents and the party. I am thinking of Harriet and the rest of his family. He will be greatly missed."

Stalybridge and Hyde MP Jonathan Reynolds said: "What terrible, shocking news. Jack was a man of such integrity and kindness. This is such a loss to Parliament and the Labour movement. Thinking of Harriet and their family at this awful time."

Denton MP Andrew Gwynne tweeted: "Devastating news to hear of Jack’s sudden passing. He was a good friend and always supportive of me. It’s a big loss to the House and to the Labour movement. My condolences to Harriet and family."

A number of Conservative colleagues have also paid tribute to Mr Dromey, including Prime Minister Boris Johnson who said: "Deeply saddened to hear of the death of Jack Dromey MP. My thoughts are with Harriet and the family, and all those who knew him as a friend. May he rest in peace."
