Teenager charged with rape in Hattersley

An 18-year-old man has been charged in connection with two serious assaults on young women in Hattersley. 

Kami Gaston, of Lumn Road, Hyde, has been charged with rape, attempted sexual assault, actual bodily harm, exposure and breach of court bail.

He has been remanded in custody to appear before Tameside Magistrates Court today (Monday 3 May).

Officers were called to reports of a disturbance at 9.10pm on Saturday night (1 May) near to Mottram Road, Hyde.

Investigations established that a woman in her late-teens had been sexually assaulted by a man and another woman who is 18-years-old had been physically assaulted by him whilst trying to intervene.

Both women are currently receiving specialist care and support.

The 18-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of rape and assault. 

Police previously said that they are treating the incident as an isolated matter but have increased police patrols in the area to provide support and reassurance to the local community.
