Greater Manchester Police have released guidance on how you can stay safe around various Greater Manchester waterways.
Stay safe around water by never jumping into or swimming in open water, this includes reservoirs, rivers, canals, and ponds. Cold Water Shock can kill in just 60 seconds, and you never know what’s lurking beneath the surface.
Under-water currents can be deadly, it is important to stay vigilant.
Always let someone know where you are going and when you plan to come back if possible. Allowing someone to access your location might just safe a life.
Warning signs are there for a reason, pay attention to any safety signs.
Look out for any hazards around water and make sure to stick to proper pathways.
It is important to never enter the water to rescue your dog, you may save them but who will save you.
Be aware if visiting any bodies of water and extra careful near the water’s edge.
