The inspirational fundraiser who has scooped another award

Inspirational fundraiser Angie Wild has scooped another major accolade after raising almost a quarter of a million pounds for good causes.

Angie, from Stalybridge, has dedicated decades of her life to helping others and raising funds for good causes.

She revealed it all began when she started raising funds for Ashton-based Willow Wood, raising nearly £65,000 alone for the good cause down the years following the death of her mother-in-law at the hospice.

From then she has moved on to raise vital monies for numerous good causes from Macmillan to Marie Curie and the Alzheimer’s Society, plus numerous individual good causes in between.

Angie’s efforts have been recognised on numerous occasions, with her latest accolade rewarding her good work overall. Angie was nominated for the BBC ‘Make A Difference’ Award 2023 and was delighted to be named the overall winner at a glittering ceremony held at Gorton Monastery recently. “I was absolutely blown away just to be nominated as apparently there were hundreds,” said Angie. “The award is for all the fundraising I’ve done over the years and it was very humbling.

“It was a fabulous, glittering red carpet ceremony attended by TV stars from Coronation Street and Emmerdale, but also, I was so proud just to be there with so many others who were being recognised in so many different categories, like neighbour of the year, community group and volunteer of the year.

“It was a lovely event and I was really shocked to be named as the overall winner.”

Angie had recently suffered a cracked rib - but she wasn’t going to let that stop her reaching the stage with everyone cheering her on as she collected her trophy. Although delighted, she was also very humbled and said a huge thank you to everyone who has helped her with her fund
raising, whether it be donating, providing venues, prizes for raffles or free entertainment for events.

“I couldn’t do it without any of them,” she said. Stalybridge MP Jonathan Reynolds sent Angie a personal letter congratulating her on receipt of the award. “This is an amazing achievement and recognition that is fully deserved. Thank you so much for the tremendous work that you
do in our local community and for really making a difference to the lives of so many people.”

The fundraising - and accolades - don’t stop there though. Angie has been shortlisted for this year’s Amazing Ashton Awards taking place next month, while she is busy organising her latest events too. Angie is focussing now primarily on raising funds for the Alzheimer’s Society.

She has established a crafters’ charity group which meets at the Seraphina Centre in Ashton on the second and fourth Monday of the month between 10.30am and 12.30pm, the group providing a place to meet for those who are lonely while the items they create are sold for the charity.

Already the crafters’ charity group has raised more than £6,000.

“It’s lovely to be able to bring people together. It’s quite a diverse group and it’s combating loneliness and those in the group are learning new things too,” added Angie.

To find out more about the group look up the charity crafters Facebook page or call into the Seraphina Centre. Angie is organising a Christmas fair at the venue together with the Seraphina Centre on November 25 from 11am to 3pm with a variety of stalls and gift ideas for the season.

Angie is also organising a special event for the over-60s on December 11 from 1-4pm at Guide Bridge Conservative Club, Stockport Road, Ashton, where you can enjoy cakes and a cuppa, plus live entertainment courtesy of Jason D, Luis and Sabine.
