Thieves break into Curzon Ashton Football Club

Curzon Ashton Football Club is appealing for information after thieves broke into the Tameside Stadium, stealing equipment and causing damage.

The National League North club tweeted on Thursday morning (4 March) that they had some "uninvited visitors" to their ground on Richmond Street in Ashton on Wednesday evening. 

"Sad to report that we had some uninvited visitors last night who stole equipment and caused damage," the club said. 

"If anyone recognises our new 'friends' or knows anything about it, please call the club. 

"Very disappointing that anyone would choose to cause damage to a community asset."

The club has issued CCTV images - one of which appears to show three men walking up steps in one of the stands. 

Police said they were called just after 5pm on Wednesday and three men - dressed in dark clothing - fled on foot. 

They are appealing for anyone with information to come forward. 

A Greater Manchester Police spokesperson said: "Just after 5pm on Wednesday 3 March 2021, police were called to an alarm activation at Tameside Stadium on Richmond Street, Ashton-under-Lyne. 

"Officers attended and three men dressed in dark clothing fled on foot. 

"Any items taken from the building have been recovered. No arrests have been made and enquiries are ongoing."

Ashton Cricket Club tweeted: "Commiserations to our near neighbours. Just shows no respect for property or the people who work to provide an asset for the community."
