Now Playing The Emotions Best Of My Love

Three new art exhibitions from four local artists

Faces, places, leaves, flowers and animals all feature in the next exhibition at the Market Gallery in Ashton Market Hall.

From Tuesday 2 November, you can see work by Jeni Harney, who gains inspiration from Stalybridge Country Park; Megan Elizabeth whose paintings are rooted in her childhood in rural Derbyshire, and Sylvia Haq and Kay Patrick who discovered a mutual passion for art when they met at Ashton Golf Club.

In “Botanicals” Jeni uses wet cyanotype – a process dating back to the earliest days of photography – to create prints from flowers and leaves collected from her garden and on walks in and around Stalybridge Country Park.

Megan Elizabeth’s animal portraits convey emotion, whether it’s the joy of the mare and foal in “First Steps” or the relaxation of horse and rider in “Harmony”.

Legendary guitarist Jimi Hendrix is one of the many faces in Sylvia Haq and Kay Patrick’s “Faces and Places” where proceeds from sales will be donated to Alzheimer’s Research UK.

Cllr Leanne Feeley, Tameside Council’s executive member with responsibility for culture, said: “The Market Gallery consistently comes up with something new and in November we have three fascinating exhibitions all by Tameside-based artists.

“Jeni’s use of a 19th century photographic process offers an entirely new perspective on flowers, while Megan, Sylvia and Kay portray depth, contrast and emotion in their own way.

“I’m sure many people will take advantage of the chance to look at these unique works while they’re shopping for bargains at Ashton Market.”

Creations by Megan and Jeni can also be seen in the apART exhibition at the Astley Cheetham Gallery above the library on Trinity Street, Stalybridge, until Saturday 2 December.
