Tornado-hit cricket club fundraising for new nets

A cricket club is fundraising to replace training nets that were damaged by a tornado last year.

Based in Millbrook, Stayley CC are aiming to bring in £20,000, with Sports England adding an extra £15,000 if they hit their target.

“The training nets are essential in the development of all players at Stayley Cricket Club and will be a fantastic addition to encourage new and returning players back,” a spokesperson for the club said.

“This will also go towards training the next generation of home-grown cricket stars of the future.

“Every penny raised will be used to ensure this project is completed and the club will be future proofed to provide training facilities for many years to come.”

When complete, the new pitches will include two enclosed all-weather practice nets and a multi-use practice pitch.

The club hope these upgraded facilities will encourage more members of the local community to get involved in cricket and help swell the ranks of their three senior teams – who play in the Greater Manchester Cricket League - women’s soft ball side and youth set up.

You can donate to the fundraiser on the club's Crowdfunder page.
