Friends of the Tame Valley, the community group looking after the valley and surrounding areas, has planted several trees near the Upper Haughton and Whittles Meadows.
Volunteers assembled on Monday morning (19 December) to plant the trees, which were secured from Tameside Council with the help of FoTV volunteer Stephen Martin.
FoTV was formed in 2020, with the help of Denton and Reddish MP Andrew Gwynne. Since the group’s inception, they have hosted litter picks, raised money for vital repairs to signage and even organised a ‘balsam bash’ to clear the area of an invasive species of plant.
Stephen said: “I would like to thank the volunteers for the fantastic job they did planting trees down at Whittles Meadows. I also would like to mention the four young men who joined us. I think they had a great time helping to improve our valley. Well done!”
MP Gwynne added: “I’d like to say a huge thanks to all the FoTV volunteers who took time out of their Monday morning to plant these trees. A special thanks to Stephen too, who set everything up and worked with Tameside Council to get these trees.
“I can’t think of a better way of ending another successful year for FoTV. Thanks to the hard work of volunteers, we really are going from strength to strength, and I can’t wait to see what 2023 holds.”
