A golden alder tree is to be planted at St John Fisher Primary School in memory of a much-loved former deputy head.
Past and present staff, parents and former pupils will gather on Friday afternoon (20 May) to remember Charlotte Conlon, who died six years ago this week after being diagnosed with cancer.
Miss Conlon was also a popular Year Three class teacher and a highly regarded member of the St John Fisher parish family in Haughton Green.
Head teacher Mandy Harris said the school had been working closely with the Manchester-based City of Trees project, resulting in as many as 300 saplings being planted in the grounds.
“We originally had the idea of a special tree for Charlotte to mark her fifth anniversary, but then had to cancel due to Covid,” she said.
“A golden alder seemed an appropriate choice as yellow was her favourite colour.”
At the planting Father Peter, priest at St John Fisher Church will lead a short service and give a blessing.
Parents and friends of the school are invited to attend the special tree-planting at 1pm.
