New police posts have been installed at Ashton Market Hall and Ryecroft Hall in Audenshaw to provide bases for officers right in the heart of communities.
The posts, provided by Tameside Council, will provide touch down points for police officers and police community support officers so they can spend more time in Ashton town centre and local neighbourhoods supporting the community.
The posts are not open to the public.
Councillor Allison Gwynne, Tameside Council Executive Member responsible for community safety, said: “We work closely with the police and other agencies as part of Tameside Community Safety Partnership to address concerns and take a proactive approach to working with the community to keep people safe.
"There have been concerns expressed about anti-social behaviour from a minority of individuals and the new police posts are just one a in a number of steps we are taking to address this. The posts should help to provide further visible police presence in these locations and increase community reassurance.”
One of the new police posts is at Ryecroft Hall in Audenshaw
Executive Member Councillor Oliver Ryan, who is responsible for buildings and estates, said: “We are always happy to work with our partners to support the community so it makes sense to provide these spaces in key locations to make it easier for the police to do their work and tackle local issues.”
Lee Broadstock, Chief Inspector of Neighbourhoods at Tameside District within Greater Manchester Police, said: "The new Police Posts provided through our strong partnership with Tameside Council will increase the visibility and accessibility of our local policing teams in Ashton Town Centre and Audenshaw, re-enforcing GMP's commitment to our Neighbourhood policing service.”
