The Vicar of Mossley will be saying farewell to his parishioners at a special service this Sunday (30 January).
Father David Warner and his wife Revd Penny Warner, of St George’s Church in Stalybridge, will be moving to Norwich next month, with their last services in Tameside on 30 January.
Father David, who has been in Mossley for just over five years, has been appointed as Priest-in-Charge of the Benefice of North Walsham in the Diocese of Norwich.
Father David, who is vicar at St John’s the Baptist Church and St George’s Church in Mossley, said: “Leaving a parish is always a tough decision - we’ve made our home here, made many friends and got to know this wonderful community. But our work means that we move around, and feel God is calling us to a new challenge and a new part of the world.
“It’s been a joy and a privilege to live here and to serve you, and I am grateful for all the kindness I have always been shown.
“Please, look after each other, know how wonderful this community is, and be thankful for all who work to make it a better place. God bless and keep you all, and thank you.”
Father David’s final service will be this Sunday and will be a united Parish Eucharist in St George’s Church in Mossley at 2.30pm.
Revd Penny Warner, who has been vicar in Stalybridge for two years, will hold her final service in St George’s Stalybridge, also on Sunday, at 10.30am. Everyone is invited to go along to both services.
From January 31, the Parish of Mossley will be in vacancy.
