VE Day competition for best dressed houses in Hyde

Hyde Werneth councillors have teamed up with a local estate agency to launch a competition ahead of the forthcoming VE Day.

Conservative councillors Phil Chadwick and Ruth Welsh have joined forces with On The Move Property Boutique, based in Gee Cross and Romiley, to hold a competition for the best dressed house in the Gee Cross area.

People are being urged to join this Facebook group so they can upload photos of their decorated houses and enter the competition whilst celebrating the 75th anniversary of VE Day on Friday, May 8, with a 'Stay At Home Street Party'.

Entries will be virtually judged by On The Move Property Boutique.

Speaking about the competition, Annabelle Jardine-Jones, owner of On The Move Property Boutique, said: "As we face some of the most challenging times since the end of WWII, now more than ever it is important to unite in recognition of the service to the nation, just as communities did 75 years ago.

"With the launch of the national ‘Stay At Home Street Party’ we wanted to bring our local communities together in celebration, and what better way as an estate agent, than to judge a ‘Best Dressed House’ competition.

"Our Facebook group now has over 500 members and it has been amazing to see so many people come together sharing ideas of crafting, baking, children’s activities and more. We can’t wait to see all the pictures of peoples houses this Friday.

"Also just wanted to say as huge thank you to the local councillors and MPs for getting behind this and supporting us as small business in this difficult time – community at its best."

Of course, planned celebrations to mark VE (Victory in Europe) Day - when the Second World War came to an end in Europe - have had to be changed due to the coronavirus pandemic but it's still a national holiday and there are still ways you can mark it while adhering to the coronavirus restrictions currently in place.
