Denton MP Andrew Gwynne has thanked volunteers from Amey who spruced up the Tame Valley as part of a corporate social responsibility day.
Amey, an infrastructure company and contractor to National Rail, sent volunteers to work with Friends of the Tame Valley last week. The team managed to cut back the overhanging branches causing issues along the bridleway through Jet Amber Fields between Riverside in Hyde to Broomstair Road in Audenshaw. They did the same in the link between St Anne's Road, Denton and the Bridleway.
Friends of the Tame Valley is a community group which was set up in 2021 with the help of Gwynne to protect and enhance the Valley. Since its inception, the Group has raised thousands of pounds for sign and footpath repairs, and held a number of successful community litter picks and action days.
Commenting, Andrew Gwynne said: "I'm tremendously grateful to the team at Amey for taking part in such a fantastic corporate responsibility day.
"It really is inspiring to see volunteers from a local employer getting involved in the great work that Friends of the Tame Valley does.
"The Valley is a prized possession for the local community, so if you aren't already please do get involved with this fantastic group."
Chris Clarke, FoTV Member who helped organise the event, added: "Once again the lads from Amey have done us proud. All the paths around the Jet Amber fields section are now clear of dangerous or over hanging branches.
"This will be of great benefit to the horse riders who were continually having to duck under them to get passed.
"Nothing is too much trouble for these lads and it was great to catch up with them, I'm looking forward to meeting up with them in the summer when they return to assist us further."
Friends of the Tame Valley will be holding its Annual General Meeting on 21 February at 7:15pm, and is encouraging people to get involved and sign-up as committee members.
