WATCH: Ashton community team deliver vital aid to Poland

A big-hearted community team has embarked on a mercy mission to Poland to deliver vital aid collected in Tameside for Ukraine.

Tameside businesswoman Emma Jones and the Ashton Waterloo Community Facebook team members Lee Woods and Dave Howarth joined forces to support the Ukraine emergency appeal.

They began collecting vital items for the appeal to help those fleeing the Russian invasion and were overwhelmed by donations.

They hired a van, loaded it up, and then Lee, Emma and Emma's brother Craig Perry drove the marathon distance to the Polish / Ukrainian border to deliver the items.

You can read their story plus we've more pictures of how you are helping the people of Ukraine in this Thursday's Tameside Reporter.

Our photographer Nigel Wood and reporter Marcus Smith caught up with them before they headed off on their journey. Watch the video at the top of the page.
