Community hub POP, which has been operating in Hyde for more than five years, is moving to new premises.
The Post Office Project (POP) has operated from the former post office building on Corporation Street, which it was named after.
A new premises was required, as the project had become so popular, as a community cafe, live music venue and was used by several groups as a drop in location.
A search for new premises was successfully rewarded with a new location, in what was Brighthouse, on Hyde Market Square.
In anticipation of upcoming financial commitments, an application was made to be considered for funding from Asda’s Green Token scheme.
Every three months, three local charities are highlighted by the supermarket giant, at many of their locations across the UK.
The public are then asked to vote which of the charities deserve the biggest slice of a £1000 total prize fund.
The charity with the most votes was to receive the £500 first prize, with the rest split between the other two.
Asda Community Champion, Janet Parish, was able to break the good news and present the winner’s cheque to POP directors, Nigel Biggs and Jackie Francis (POP’s founder).
Jackie said she was thrilled to have won the cash award and thanked all those who voted for them.
She also gave Janet a tour of the new premises and updates on how the work was progressing.
It is hoped the new POP On The Square will open early in May as a cafe, with live music and drop in advice Centre to follow soon.
The directors also wished to thank all of the volunteers, who have worked so hard to create the new space, ready for a grand opening, to be announced soon.
