West Side Story is coming to the stage in Hyde

The fabulous hit musical 'West Side Story' is coming to Tameside at the end of March.

Presented by Hyde Musical Theatre Society, the classic love story will take to the stage at Hyde's Festival Theatre from 29 March to 1 April.

Following their sell out production of the Elvis juke box musical ‘All Shook Up’ last year, the society return to the stage this month with the romantic and tragic musical ‘West Side Story’.

Known on stage and screen, ‘West Side Story’ transports the well-known Shakespeare play ‘Romeo and Juliet’ onto the 1950s’ streets of New York. Exploring the fierce rivalry of gangs, the Jets and the Sharks, and the young, forbidden love between Tony and Maria. The musical features songs such as Somewhere, America and I Feel Pretty.

Director Daniel Oliver-Grant said: “The cast have been working so hard to bring this much-loved musical to life. It’s easy to forget they all have full-time jobs or are in full-time education in addition to rehearsing three times a week. I guarantee they will bring a professional standard of performance to the stage.

“We’ve got a fantastic group of dancers, and an incredible principal cast that will have audiences laughing and crying on this emotional journey.”

Evening performances start at 7.30pm with a matinee on the Saturday at 2.30pm.

Tickets are available from Sparks Theatre Management or visit hydemusicalsociety.org.uk for more information.
