A man who spat at officers, a prison threat for offences and a knifeman jailed have been among the recent cases heard by Tameside Magistrates' Court.

Spat and kicked at police officers
Mossley man Shane Smally has been given a suspended jail sentence by Tameside magistrates.
The 23-year-old, of Hart Mill Close, pleaded guilty to a charge of assaulting a special constable and police constable acting in the course of their duties and a police constable.
The offences related to an incident on November 13 when he had spat and kicked out at the officers.
Magistrates jailed him for 15 weeks, suspended for 18 months. He must carry out 40 hours unpaid work and pay a total of £100 compensation.
He was handed a Rehabilitation Activity Requirement meaning he must comply with the instructions of a responsible officer.
Prison threat for offences
Tameside magistrates have handed Wesley Coulding a suspended jail term for driving when disqualified.
The 43-year-old, of Hattersley Road West, Hyde, pleaded guilty to the charge, plus having no insurance cover and driving a large goods vehicle which had no registration plates.
Magistrates heard the offences happened on March 9 last year at Pwllheli in the county of Gwynedd.
They gave him an 18 weeks jail sentence, suspended for 12 months.
Magistrates imposed the threat of jail because of the distance travelled, the defendant’s poor driving record and deliberate evasion.
But the sentence was suspended as the court heard in his defence that he had turned his life around.
He must pay court costs of £85 and a victim surcharge of £122. The court banned him from the road for a further eight months.
Officers assaulted
Teenager Robbie Wilde assaulted two police constables and was found in possession of cannabis, Tameside magistrates heard.
The 19-year-old, of Newton Hall Road, Hyde, pleaded guilty to the offences which happened in Dukinfield on September 29 this year.
Magistrates ordered him to carry out 200 hours unpaid work, plus pay compensation of £300, court costs of £85 and a victim surcharge of £95.
He was issued with a Rehabilitation Activity Requirement and the court ordered the cannabis be forfeited and destroyed.
Covid breaches
Tameside magistrates have fined more residents for breaching Covid regulations.
Offenders had participated in gatherings banned at the time under the Tier 4 regulations in place across Greater Manchester.
Fines of £1,760 were imposed plus associated court costs of more than £250 must also be paid.
Jail for attack on Metro man
A Stalybridge man has been jailed after a ‘violent’ and ‘abhorrent’ assault on a Metrolink staff member who had asked him to provide proof of a ticket.
Jordan Halliday, 39, of Ridge Hill Lane, was jailed last week at Tameside Magistrates’ Court after pleading guilty to Section 4 Public Order and Common Assault.

Intention of theft
Ryan Legge was given an eight months conditional discharge by Tameside magistrates after being found in a garage in the borough with the intention of theft.
He pleaded guilty to the offence relating to an incident on September 2 this year.
He must also pay a £22 victim surcharge.
The 27-year-old’s address was given as Cormallen Grove, Failsworth.
Expensive ticket
Tameside magistrates have fined dozens more residents for failing to pay for their Metrolink tickets and travelling on the service for free.
Passengers found guilty of the offence from across Greater Manchester did not appear before the court but were issued with fines of £220. They will also have to pay associated court costs of more than £150 - meaning they will face a total bill of just over £370.
Disqualified driver behind the wheel
Banned Glossop driver Austin Mitchell has been ordered to carry out 200 hours unpaid work after being found behind the wheel of a car.
The 37-year-old, of Winster Mews, was stopped driving a VW Golf in Dove Holes near Buxton on June 26, Tameside magistrates heard.
He admitted the offence and having no insurance.
Magistrates banned him from driving for a further six months and ordered him to pay £85 court costs and a £95 victim surcharge.
He was issued with a Rehabilitation Activity Requirement meaning he must comply with the instructions of a responsible officer to attend set appointments.
Too threatening
Being threatening and abusive landed Mohammed Abdi before Tameside magistrates.
The 25-year-old, of Camber Lane, Gorton, pleaded guilty to the offence relating to an incident on July 22 last year in Manchester.
The court gave him a two year conditional discharge, plus ordered him to pay £50 compensation.
Three year ban
Tameside magistrates have disqualified an Ashton man from driving for three years.
The court heard Adil Sohail, 22, of Balmoral Court, was stopped on Ashton Road, Oldham, on May 2 this year and found to be over the drug drive limit.
He was fined £120 and ordered to pay £85 court costs and a victim surcharge of £34.
Banned for being over legal limit
Daniel Norris, 24, of Fairfield Road, Droylsden, was over the drink drive limit when stopped in January this year, Tameside magistrates heard.
He pleaded guilty to the offence after being found to have 56 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath. The legal limit is 35.
He was banned from the road for 12 months and fined £80, plus ordered to pay £85 court costs and a £34 victim surcharge. The disqualification can be reduced by 12 weeks if a driving course is successfully completed.
Work order for double trouble
Hollingworth teenager Jaden Hughes has been ordered to carry out 100 hours unpaid work for charges of assault and being in possession of drugs.
The 19-year-old, of Ellison Close, pleaded guilty to two charges of assaulting police constables and being in possession of a quantity of cannabis and cocaine.
The offences related to an incident on New Year’s Day this year at Lodge Bank in Hadfield.
He was ordered to pay £200 compensation, plus court costs of £100 and a victim surcharge of £95.
He was issued with a Rehabilitation Activity Requirement meaning he must comply with the instructions of a responsible officer.
Magistrates instructed the drugs be forfeited and destroyed.
£100 pay out for assault
Marple woman Kollette Wilson has been fined £162 and ordered to pay £100 compensation for a charge of assault.
The defendant, 31, of Outram Close, initially denied the charge but later changed her plea to guilty.
Magistrates heard the assault had happened last year on September 20 in Stockport.
Magistrates ordered that court costs of £400 be paid along with a victim surcharge of £34.
Broke order by entering store
Stephen Cotton, 39, of Ashton Road, Denton, was fined £40 by Tameside magistrates.
He pleaded guilty to entering Asda on Cavendish Street in Ashton when prohibited from doing so.
He was also detained at the court until a given time on the day of his appearance.
Knifeman jailed
Tameside magistrates jailed Jack Boardman for 12 weeks after he was found in possession of a knife in a public place.
The court heard the 29-year-old, of no fixed abode, was in Wellington Terrace, Dukinfield in possession of a kitchen knife.
He was immediately jailed and must also pay a victim surcharge of £128.
