A man found in possession of a pepper spray, a woman who stole from Sainsbury's in Ashton and a motorist caught driving whilst disqualified twice are some of the recent cases heard at Tameside Magistrates' Court.

Jail threat for assaults
Tameside magistrates handed James Phillips a suspended jail sentence for charges of assault and causing damage.
The 29-year-old, of Kenworthy Avenue, Ashton, appeared before the court charged with assaulting an individual in Ashton on June 9 last year, plus smashing windows and causing £200 damage at a property in the town on the same date.
He was also charged with resisting a PC in the execution of their duty on the same date.
In a separate incident on December 7 last year he was charged with assaulting a police officer.
He pleaded guilty to all of the offences and was given a 21 weeks jail sentence, suspended for 12 months.
Magistrates also ordered him to pay a total of £275 compensation, £200 court costs and a £128 victim surcharge.
Denton man found with pepper spray
Stuart McErlean must carry out 200 hours unpaid work for being in possession of an offensive weapon and a quantity of drugs.
The 44-year-old, of Duke Street, Denton, pleaded guilty to the charges relating to an incident in Burnley back in June last year.
Tameside magistrates heard he was in possession of a pepper spray, plus amphetamines on the date.
He pleaded guilty to the charges and was ordered to carry out the unpaid work plus pay £85 court costs and a £90 victim surcharge.
The court ordered the drugs and pepper spray be forfeited and destroyed.
£100 fine for theft
Victoria Carroll has been fined £100 by Tameside magistrates for assault and theft.
The 47-year-old, of Garden Walk, Ashton, initially denied the assault charge but later changed her plea to guilty.
She did admit however stealing items from Sainsbury’s in Ashton worth just over £140.
Both charges related to an incident on November 24 last year.
Magistrates ordered her to pay £50 compensation plus £85 court costs and a £34 victim surcharge.
100 hours of unpaid work
Steven Raphael, 34, of Leech Avenue, Ashton, must carry out 100 hours unpaid work and pay more than £400 compensation, Tameside magistrates have instructed.
He pleaded guilty to charges of damaging a car and other property plus one charge of assault when he appeared before the court.
The offences related to an incident in Hyde on January 9 this year.
Magistrates ordered him to pay £405 compensation in total and a £95 victim surcharge.
Arrest after 'exposure'
A man was arrested on suspicion of indecent exposure after an incident at a reservoir in Stalybridge on Friday.
At 3.20pm Greater Manchester Police’s Tameside North and East Team received reports about an incident at Brushes Reservoir.
They said a man was allegedly ‘causing alarm and distress’ to members of the public by ‘exposing himself indecently.’
Police confirmed on Friday that a man in his 20s was arrested in connection with the incident.
Anyone with further information regarding the incident is asked to call 101, quoting incident number 1918 of 13/08/2021.
Driving into real trouble
Tameside magistrates ordered Adam Moores to carry out 80 hours unpaid work.
The 33-year-old, of Windermere Road, Dukinfield, admitted two separate charges of driving while disqualified from holding or obtaining a driving licence.
The first offence was on August 6 this year on Hyde Road, Denton, when he was stopped behind the wheel of a Seat Leon.
Then just three days later he was stopped driving a VW Golf on Guide Lane, Audenshaw.
He pleaded guilty to both offences and having no insurance on each occasion.
Magistrates banned him from the road for a further 14 months plus ordered him to pay £85 court costs and a £95 victim surcharge.
