A man charged with kidnap attempt, drivers banned for drink driving and charges for assault have been among the latest cases heard by Tameside Magistrates' Court.

Charged with kidnap attempt and assaults

A man has been charged following a collision in Hyde which saw two police officers assaulted as well as an attempted kidnap.

Kade Bagnall, 25, of Valentine Street, Failsworth, has been charged with two counts of attempted kidnap, theft without consent, two counts of assault on an emergency worker, common assault, and possession of a bladed article.

The charges follow an incident on Wednesday last week when Greater Manchester Police were called to reports of a collision between a moped and a car on Hattersley Road West.

Following the collision, the moped rider got into the car and threatened the driver with a knife, asking him to drive off. When the driver refused, the moped rider got out of the car, and assaulted a police officer who had arrived before making off.

The moped rider then approached a car engineer who was working on a car on Pudding Lane and pushed him, before attempting to make off in the vehicle.

Following this, he then got into a Corsa car on Honiton Avenue, which was being driven by a 56-year-old woman, and threatened her to drive.

The woman fled from the car and the moped rider made off in it before abandoning the vehicle on Abbey Gardens and getting onto a bus.

Police stopped the bus and the moped rider attempted to escape through the emergency door but was pursued by police and detained.

The moped rider was taken to hospital with a number of injuries believed to have been caused from the initial collision, but while there assaulted a second police officer.

Both police officers received minor injuries which did not require hospital treatment. No-one else reported any injuries.

Three times over legal limit

Gamesley motorist Daniel Ryan was more than three times over the legal drink drive limit when stopped in Mottram on Colborne Grove.

The 30-year-old, of Hollins Bank, pleaded guilty to the offence which happened on August 27 this year.

Tameside magistrates heard he was found to have 114 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath. The legal limit is 35.

Magistrates banned him from the road for 20 months and fined him £100 plus ordered him to pay £85 court costs and a £95 victim surcharge.

He was also given a community order - namely a Rehabilitation Activity Requirement meaning he must attend appointments as instructed by an officer.

The driving disqualification can be reduced by 20 weeks if a driving course is successfully completed.

Lengthy disqualification for high reading

An Ashton motorist was more than four times over the drink drive limit when stopped in the town, Tameside magistrates heard.

Sam Millward, 36, of Higher Alt Hill, pleaded guilty to the offence after being stopped on September 26 and found to have 149 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath. The legal limit is 35.

Magistrates banned him from the road for three years and ordered him to carry out 150 hours unpaid work.

He must also pay £85 court costs and a victim surcharge of £95.

He was also issued with a community order, namely a Rehabilitation Activity Requirement, and must attend appointments when required with an officer.

The driving disqualification can be reduced by 36 weeks if a driving course is satisfactorily completed.

Banned driver behind the wheel

A disqualified driver caught behind the wheel of a Ford Fiesta car in Audenshaw has appeared before Tameside magistrates.

William Glazebrook pleaded guilty to driving when disqualified from holding a driving licence, driving without due care and attention and without insurance cover.

The offences related to an incident on Manchester Road on September 10. Magistrates ordered him to carry out 150 hours of unpaid work, plus banned him from the road for a further 12 months. He was ordered to pay £85 court costs and given a £95 victim surcharge.

He was also given a community order, namely a Rehabilitation Activity Requirement, meaning he must attend appointments as instructed to do so by an officer. The 22-year-old’s address was given as Leigh Drive, Stockport.

Three year ban

Steven Wright was more than two times over the legal drink drive limit when stopped in Ashton, Tameside magistrates heard.

The 50-year-old, of Manchester Road, Hyde, pleaded guilty to the offence which happened on September 26 this year. He was found to have 83 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath. The legal limit is 35.

Magistrates disqualified him from driving for three years, fined him £120 plus ordered him to pay £85 court costs and pay a £34 victim surcharge. The driving disqualification can be reduced by 36 weeks if a driving course is successfully completed.

Drug discovery

A man found in possession of a quantity of cocaine has been given a 12 months conditional discharge by Tameside magistrates.

Daniel Dodman, 34, of Bengal Square, Ashton, admitted the offence after being stopped in Mossley on September 28 this year and found with the class A drug.

He must pay £85 court costs and a £22 victim surcharge. Magistrates ordered the snap bag of cocaine be forfeited and destroyed.

Taken off road

Ross Penrice, 24, of Barkwell Lane, Mossley, has been banned from the road for 12 months by Tameside magistrates for drug driving.

He admitted the offence after being stopped in Greenfield on April 23 this year. Magistrates fined him £250 plus ordered him to pay £85 court costs and a £34 victim surcharge.

Man sent MP menacing email

A man who sent a threatening email to Ashton and Failsworth MP Angela Rayner has been sentenced.

Benjamin Iliffe, 36, from Cambridgeshire, was given a suspended sentence at Huntington Magistrates’ Court last Thursday following an investigation carried out by Greater Manchester Police detectives and officers from Cambridgeshire Police.

The threatening email was sent to the MP, who is also the deputy leader of the Labour Party, on October 16 from Iliffe’s personal account where he told her to ‘watch your back and your kids.’

Man appears in court charged with assault

A man from Stalybridge has been charged following an incident in Glossop where a man was stabbed.

Johnny Joyce, 28, of Stephen Close, appeared before Tameside Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday charged with causing grievous bodily harm with intent.

He was remanded in custody ahead of an appearance at Minshull Street Crown Court in Manchester next Tuesday, November 9.

Officers were called to reports that a 22-year-old man had been stabbed in Hawthorn Drive, Glossop, in the early hours of September 21.

Joyce was arrested by officers from Greater Manchester Police on Monday.

Last week, officers from GMP were issuing wanted posters in the Carrbrook area of Stalybridge in an effort to find Joyce, which said he was wanted in connection with attempted murder.

Over legal limit

Glossop motorist Simon Howden was more than three times over the drink drive limit when stopped at Dinting Vale on June 30 this year, Tameside magistrates heard.

The 51-year-old, of George Street, admitted the offence after having been found to have 334 milligrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of urine. The legal limit is 107.

He was banned from the road for two years and given an eight weeks curfew order, meaning he must remain at his address between the hours of 7pm and 7am each night for the duration of the order.

He must pay £85 court costs and a victim surcharge of £95.

The driving disqualification can be reduced by 24 weeks if driving course is satisfactorily completed.
