A filmmaker, Rachel Tracy, is looking for women in Tameside and Glossop born on the same date as her for a documentary.
The documentary ‘Forty at Forty’ will chronicle the lives of 40 everyday women on the run-up to their 40th birthday, showing the differences and similarities between their stories.
Rachel added: “39 is a funny age because you’re sort of middling. I definitely started to have a mid-life crisis, so this project is a way of turning that misery into something fun and productive.
“Filming some of the women for the documentary has been a therapeutic experience. Not just for me, but for them. It addresses things that women think about every day, maybe several times a day, but don’t get asked about.
“Lots of things on television aren’t representative of our lives, but that doesn’t make our real lives any less spectacular. The documentary is a chance to bring those ‘nobodies’ into the spotlight.”
‘Forty at Forty’ is Rachel’s first personal film project, despite being a filmmaker for TV shows on major channels such as BBC Two, ITV and Channel 4.
She said: “I’d had a pit in my stomach for a long time seeing other people succeed and do their own films, and that’s when I realised it was because I wanted to do it too.
“I’ve always wanted to make my own film before I turned 40. I hadn’t done it previously because of my lack of confidence. You get into a pattern of working your way up the ladder and feeling like things should be getting easier, but they don’t because there’s always newer and brighter things coming along.”
Rachel fits filming around co-parenting her daughter and is using the self-funded project as a way of showing her daughter she can achieve anything.
Women that fit the criteria can contact Rachel or find out more at https://racheltracy.co.uk/single-films/forty-at-forty/
She stresses there is no commitment to anything and there’s no selection process either, people shouldn’t self-select or judge themselves uninteresting.
